Honoring WWII, Korean & Vietnam War Veterans

Roswell Rotary Honor Air intends to honor as many of America’s heros as possible by providing them a completely free day trip to visit their Memorials. Our next trip is planned for Tuesday, April 24, 2018.

We Honor Our Heroes

Many of the men and women who fought and sacrificed for our country have not had the opportunity nor the financial ability to visit their own Memorials. Our World War II heroes are passing away at the rate of more than 600 per day so time is of the essence for these great men and women! The story is much the same for our Korean War veterans. We want to give our Vietnam War veterans the “Welcome Home” they never received, honoring their service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country. Top priority is given to the most senior veterans and to those who have serious health issues.

How It Works

Here is how the Honor Air works: approximately seventy World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War veterans veterans plus guardians, a doctor and emergency personnel will gather at the Roswell, GA Community Center in the early morning hours and travel by motorcoach to the Atlanta airport. They will fly on a chartered plane to Washington, D.C. where they will be escorted on buses from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to the World War II Memorial. Then they will visit the Vietnam and Korean Memorials and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. That same day they will return to the Reagan airport, fly back to Atlanta and then by bus to Roswell. Every veteran will have a volunteer guardian to personally assist them. Paramedics and wheelchairs will be available for the journey.

We Need Your Help

The program operates on donations from local businesses, organizations and individuals. The volunteer guardians pay their own way and personally escort the veterans on the aircraft, accompany them to the memorials throughout the day, and then escort them back during the return flight. Our veterans do not pay anything to go on this trip! However, it costs us approximately $600.00 per veteran for the day. This covers the cost of the chartered plane, transportation, and meals. Sponsorships for these veterans are being solicited and can be made in honor of or in memory of another veteran.

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Checks should be made out to Roswell Rotary Foundation. Please mail your contribution to:

First Annual Honor Air Invitational

Roswell High School and Roswell Rotary Honor Air are pleased to announce the “Roswell High School and Roswell Rotary Honor Air Invitational” basketball tournament to be held at Roswell High School, Nov. 18th, 20th and 21st, 2017. Doors open at 8:30 AM and close at 9:00 PM. Fifteen teams from the southeast will be playing. Representing the boys teams are Roswell High, Blessed Trinity, Westminster, Alpharetta High, West Ashley High (Charleston SC), Gray Collegiate Prep (Columbia SC) and KIPP Collegiate Academy. Girl’s teams include Roswell High, Blessed Trinity, Westminster, Alpharetta High, KIPP Collegiate Academy, Pebblebrook High, Locust Grove High and Chapel Hill High. It is estimated that several hundred students, coaches and players will be traveling here for the weekend to enjoy the tournament in addition to local restaurants, retailers and area attractions.

This event will honor our military veterans from all branches of service from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War as we raise awareness and support in the metro Atlanta community for the Honor Air Flight. Ticket sales proceeds will be donated to Honor Air, as they plan for their 10th straight flight, April 24th, 2018. According to Gene Beckman, “we are pleased to work with Roswell High School in the first invitational and honored that they have chosen Honor Air as the beneficiary of proceeds. Honor Air flights are 100% funded through local donations. It is amazing to watch the bonds and relationships formed between the veterans who have been on this trip. They are our war heroes and it is our pleasure to honor them.”
