President's Message
Before the last pumpkin leaves the porch and the turkey takes over, I want to look ahead to November, which Rotary celebrates as The Rotary Foundation Month. Our Foundation is our own charity, and it is one we can be proud of. For many years running, The Rotary Foundation has earned four stars from Charity Navigator, the highest rating it gives. That rating reflects strong finances, accountability and transparency. When you give to TRF, you are not taking a leap of faith. You are investing in one of the most trusted charities in the country. The best part is that your gift grows. Every dollar Rotary raises to end polio is matched with two more from the Gates Foundation, so a $100 gift becomes $300. Gifts to the Annual Fund are invested for three years. Then about half comes back to our district as District Designated Funds, which clubs like ours use for local and international grant projects. When those district funds go into a global grant, the Foundation's World Fund adds another 80 percent. Many employers will also match your gift. Our club has seen this firsthand: over the years, TRF grants have helped us complete many projects that changed lives. This year, we received a global grant for a clean water project in Panama that will change the lives and health of that community. Few places make one check work this hard. Giving to TRF keeps us committed to Rotary's ideals in all seven areas of focus around the world: peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; community economic development; and supporting the environment. When we join hands with Rotarians and donors across the globe, we create funding that none of us could raise alone, and that funding moves us forward as People of Action. This is the time of year when many of us plan our giving, both for tax purposes and because it is the season of giving. As you make your plans, please consider making The Rotary Foundation your charity of choice. Yours in Service, Leslie Bassett |

Board Spotlight Cheryl Greenway -Foundation Chair
It could be said that Cheryl Greenway was born into Rotary leadership, by virtue of her father, Aubrey Greenway, serving as President of the Roswell Rotary Club, 1976-1977. Joining Rotary in 1994 and serving in various board roles prior to her presidency in 2005-2006, she led the club to Best Club recognition and was awarded the District 6900 Sheffield Leadership Award. As a Major Donor, she is a Paul Harris Society Member and Bequest Society Member Level 2. Aside from this well-deserved recognition, she can explain the benefits of Paul Harris Fellowship like nobody’s business! Her District level involvement includes coordination of those 70 clubs, awards chairmanship, and service in Treasurer positions since 2008. A Roswell native, following graduation from Georgia State University, magna cum laude, Cheryl has worked as a CPA for Deloite, eventually moving on to form her own accounting firm, then merging with the Lindsey Group now known as Lindsey, Greenway and McIntire. She is recently retired and now has 100% flexibility! Serving on various local and state boards of organizations, it could be said Cheryl is a force of nature, recognized by the American Business Women’s Association with the Phenomenal Women of North Fulton award. In her spare time, she loves traveling, having been a white rafter through the Grand Canyon. And by the picture above, LOVED her trip to Ireland! |
New Member Spotlight Welcome Matt Wheeler
Matt Wheeler lives and works in Roswell and East Cobb, where he and his wife, Pamela, have built their life together. Their daughter, Olivia, is away at college near St. Simons Island. Their adult son, Billy, is autistic and lives with their wonderfully blended family. A graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Family Financial Planning, Matt spent seven years at an investment firm, where he discovered a real passion for taxes. That passion led him to found Wheeler Wealth, a firm specializing in tax strategy and tax resolution. Today, Matt serves clients as a tax advisor and Enrolled Agent, licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Beyond the world of taxes, Matt runs daily operations at Crazy Love Coffee in Roswell, where he also shares in the profits. Service is close to his heart: he ushers at his church and has volunteered with Frontline and partner organizations working to prevent human trafficking. Matt looks forward to connecting with fellow Roswell business owners and giving back to the community that has blessed him and his family. |
