Back to School Highlights
President's Message- August 2

We had a great "Back to School" program last week with the wonderful assistance of Stacy Perlman and FCS Area Superintendent Angela Parham.  These two ladies came to the rescue when our speaker developed laryngitis overnight.  We met our new Roswell High School principal LaToya Miley and heard about our donation of 23 full backpacks and many more school supplies to North Fulton Community Charities thanks to the awesome work of Courtney Lott and June Brown.

This week we will highlight a school program that went on hold in the spring of 2020 like so many other things in our lives - Rotary Youth Exchange.  Come learn about this international exchange program for high schoolers and hear from our outbound student Revie Pierce who is headed to France for a year.  And our inbound student Noppasorn (LaNeige) Iemsanguanjit arrives Tuesday night from Thailand for a year of study at Roswell High.  Hopefully she will be able to join us on Thursday for lunch before the school year starts August 8th.

It's also been great to see members who have been away for health and other reasons for over two years.  I look forward to the day when we have to add back the long tables along one side of the room to accommodate everyone.

See you Thursday!

Rotary Youth Exchange
August 4- Program Revie Pierce Going to France

Ooh La La! C'est Bon! Roswell Rotary is going to France vicariously through Revie Pierce, our outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student . Don't miss this exciting meeting to hear all of her plans and excitement of bringing Roswell to France and France to Roswell!

Alesia Booth will be giving us background on this program that was so badly interrupted by COVID. A chance that our inbound student, LaNeige from Thailand, may be able to join us as well! Hope you can join us Thursday!

After Hours' Next Meeting is TONIGHT!

Roswell Rotary After Hours is meeting tonight at 6:30! Note that due to a private event at The Artillery Room, the club is meeting tonight at the Gate City Backhouse. This meeting will be an open brainstorming session as they plan and organize After Hours' goals for the rest of the year.

Donate Tomorrow (Wed, Aug 3)
Getting Someone to Donate Blood is the Definition of “Service Above Self”

And we’ll reward the donation of a pint of blood with a pint of outstanding craft beer.  Pint for a Pint. Wellstar’s Lori Allen shared a story at Rotary last Thursday that reinforced the need for donations of blood.  The reality is that with all of the brilliance, ingenuity and perseverance, mankind is not able to make synthetic blood.  Wellstar and our community need what’s in your arm.  But if you’re part of the 65% of the community unable to donate blood, we need you to volun-tell a friend or family member to donate in your honor! We’ll let the two of you figure out who gets the ‘thank you beer.’ Make it a "Call To Action" to be accountable for getting of one pint donated.  It's a simple process that makes you feel so good when you deliver!

After Hours Visits the Unity Garden

Bell peppers, cucumbers and asparagus--oh my! Thank you to Henning Von Schmeling for giving After Hours a private tour of the Unity Garden at the Chattahoochee Nature Center! It was an informative, insightful and worthwhile evening. The group will certainly be back, but next time, with gloves and shovels!
