President's Message

Roswell Rotarians, here we are — the home stretch. After months of sponsor calls, ball drop ticket sales, committee meetings, and just plain showing up for each other, the Golf, Tennis & Pickleball Tournament is finally this Monday. If you've been part of pulling this together, you know that feeling of watching a hundred moving pieces finally click into place: the tee sheets are set, the courts are lined, the sponsor signs are up, and twenty-five community organizations are about to be a little stronger because of what we've built together. That's not a small thing. That's Rotary at its most tangible.

On Monday, let's actually enjoy it. We've earned that too. After all the planning, this is our day to be together on the course and the courts, to laugh, compete a little, and celebrate what twenty-five charities are about to receive because we didn't quit on the details. So as you're playing, volunteering, or just wandering between holes checking on your fellow Rotarians, keep an eye out for that one moment that reminds you why you're a Rotarian in the first place. Maybe it's a conversation on the back nine that shifts your whole perspective on something. Maybe it's a laugh so genuine with a teammate that you feel it in your chest for the rest of the day. Maybe it's standing next to a fellow volunteer at registration and picking up some small piece of wisdom you'll carry with you long after Monday's over. Maybe it's simply watching a sponsor's face when they see what their generosity is actually doing for this community. Whatever it is for you — go find it. That's the moment that makes all the logistics worth it.

Thank you to every single person who sponsored, sold, recruited, organized, and volunteered to get us here. This tournament doesn't happen without all of you leaning in, and I am so proud of what this club has built together this year. I can't wait to spend Monday with each of you — enjoying the fruits of our labor, cheering each other on, and soaking in every bit of what makes this club feel like home.

Yours in Service,

Leslie

Insights from Former U.S. Army Inspector General LTG Leslie C. Smith on September 10th

Lieutenant General Leslie C. Smith, U.S. Army (Ret.) currently serves as Vice President for Leadership and Education at the Association of the United States Army, a visiting leadership professor at Georgia Southern University’s Parker College of Business, CEO of LV Smith Corporate Group, LLC, and a director on several corporate boards. Commissioned from Georgia Southern University in 1983, he became a Chemical Officer in 1985 after graduating as a distinguished military graduate with a degree in accounting. His final active‑duty assignment (2018–2021) was The Inspector General of the U.S. Army, the first Chemical Officer to hold that role.  As a general officer, he served as the 25th Chief of Chemical, Commandant of the U.S. Army CBRN School, Commanding General of the 20th CBRNE Command, Commanding General of the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood, and Deputy Inspector General. Board Member Spotlight
Courtney Lott- Membership Chair

Courtney Lott has called the Roswell area home since childhood, attending Roswell High School before heading to the University of Mississippi, where she earned a double major in Education and English. She went on to complete a Master's degree in both Elementary Education and Curriculum and Instruction while working for Ole Miss Athletics. Not long after, she returned to Atlanta and set her sights on a new career in real estate.

Back in Atlanta, Courtney married Jim Lott, a real estate developer and proud University of Georgia alumnus. Together they're raising two sons, Taylor (9) and Tucker (2), and the family's shared love of real estate, football, and travel keeps them busy — whether they're headed to the beach or cheering on a game day.

Today, Courtney is a real estate agent with Keller Williams Peachtree Road, focusing on the North Fulton area. She's been an active member of the Roswell Rotary Club since 2021, currently serving as Membership Chair, where she works to build connections and grow the club's outreach to prospective members. For Courtney, her career and her community work go hand in hand — both let her do what she loves while making a real difference for the people around her. At the heart of it all is a simple mission: bringing people together through shared passions and a spirit of service.

The event, co-hosted by Keep Roswell Beautiful and the City of Roswell, is part of a statewide campaign to preserve Georgia’s 70,100 miles of rivers and streams. Small groups of volunteers will be dispersed across the city to perform beautification projects, including litter pick-ups, invasive plant and shrub removal, mulching, native plant planting, and storm drain marking.

Registration

Register online. The registration deadline is September 16. Pre-registered groups will be assigned a task based on preference. In addition to the online group registration, each volunteer must provide a signed waiver.
