PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Peace

We were truly blessed with Malek Jandali’s story and musical gifts last week! I was inspired by his kindness, joy and willingness to use his life as a vehicle for peace. Malek shares his story in a Ted Talk and is worth watching and sharing. Go to https://malekjandali.com/malek-jandali-tedx-talk-g... If you enjoyed Malek’s creative way of sharing peace, check out the Ted Talk at https://www.ted.com/talks/richard_turere_a_peace_t....As Everyday Leaders we can all inspire peace by sharing a kind word and a smile, respecting and helping others and uniting those around us.

Let’s spread peace right here in Roswell. Please share Malek’s story of peace with others this week!

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Opening Relationships & Revenue

How many times have you heard “Let’s think outside the box”? Countless! In every enterprise, whether for profit, non-profit, religious or civic, leaders need to consider ways to engage more people and, ultimately, increase revenue to succeed in today’s world. While working at Arnall Golden Gregory, I met Andrew Dietz. He taught a bunch of us young lawyers how to be rainmakers—no easy task! Rainmaking in a law firm is one of the keys to success and the education I received set me on a path to partnership and then owning my own firm. Andrew is a master storyteller and the author of two great books. On Thursday, he will help us learn how to tell our story to open relationships that increase revenues. Join us on Thursday, because it works!

Thanks to our Rotascope team for the new template! The information is now based on the Roswell Rotary website, calendar and District database and should be up to date! We hope you like the updates!

President Becky

This Week's Speaker
Andrew Dietz

Andrew is the co-founder of Creative Influence – a marketing firm that helps business-to-business companies grow more relationships and revenue. Before launching his firm in 2003, Andrew built a successful career in media and technology services marketing – serving in roles such as VP, Product Marketing for BellSouth.net, Partner with netWorth Ventures and as CEO of the early social media company, SideTalk. He is the author of two books - The Last Folk Hero: A Story of Race and Art, Power and Profit – and – The Opening Playbook: A Professionals Guide to Building Relationships That Grow Revenue. Andrew earned a BBA from University of Michigan and an MBA from Duke University.

CHARITY SPOTLIGHT

Mission:

The Drake House is a short-term crisis housing, education and empowerment program for homeless mothers and their children, designed to assist the family in working toward housing self-sufficiency.

Fast Facts:

Founded in 2004 as a Leadership North Fulton class project to address the growing number of homeless women and children in the area. The doors opened in 2006.

Named in honor of Roswell native Mary Drake, a founder of North Fulton Community Charities.

The Drake House assists families toward becoming financially stable, contributing members of the community through a variety of programs, including:

  • Housing and food, so families can remain in the community and children can remain in their current schools
  • Preserving the family unit (boys over the age of 12 are allowed to remain with their family, rather than go to a men’s shelter)
  • Children and teen after-school enrichment programs
  • Life skills, education, and empowerment planning for adults
  • Career coaching including assistance with resume development, interviewing skills, clothing, skills development, career seminars, and job leads

Each year, the organization’s private housing serves approximately 50 families and 100 children.

The Drake House has served over 350 families with more than 650 children since opening its doors.

Last Week at Rotary
Malek Jandali, Founder of Pianos for Peace

Last week we not only heard Malek Jandali speak about his passion for his Pianos for Peace project but he actually played a beautiful tune on the colorful piano for us. His efforts to put pianos around towns in the most unsuspecting locations is proving that music can be a facilitator for peace.
