President's Message
Champions

Champion: a person who has defeated or surpassed all rivals in a competition. Championship teams are built on a solid foundation of a love for the game, the ability to overcome adversity, leadership from the coaches and the players and execution at the highest level. Perfect seasons in any sport are rare. This week, Roswell Rotary celebrates the 2018 State AAAA Champions from Blessed Trinity Football and their PERFECT SEASON!

And, sharing his experiences with us and this great team will be KSU Head Coach Brian Bohannon. He has built a program of excellence at Kennesaw State University. After becoming the first head football coach in the history of KSU, Coach Bohannon has taken the Owls to heights never seen by a start-up football program. In just four short years, Coach Bohannon has led the Owls to a 37-12 record, back-to-back Big South Conference championships and consecutive appearances in the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs. I am looking forward to hearing from Coach Bohannon on how he built a championship culture at KSU.

Championship teams are not always sports teams. Roswell Rotary is a championship team! We have a passion for what we do, a long history of engaged leaders and members, the ability to overcome obstacles as they arise and we get the job done with excellence and have fun doing it! Each week our setup team puts up the banners to remind us of our championship heritage. As each of us collaborate and work together, we reinforce our championship culture. Together, WE ARE CHAMPIONS!

Join me and a gym full of Champions on Thursday!

President Becky

This Week's Speaker

After becoming the first head football coach in the history of Kennesaw State University, Brian Bohannon has taken the Owls to heights never seen by a start-up football program.

In just four short years, Bohannon has led the Owls to a 37-12 record, back-to-back Big South Conference championships and consecutive appearances in the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs.

After putting the world on notice in 2017 with a 12-2 season, the outright Big South Conference title and two FCS Playoffs victories, the Owls somehow outdid themselves during the 2018 campaign. Ranked No. 2 in the nation for much of the year, KSU earned the No. 4 overall seed in the playoffs and took an 11-game winning to a second consecutive quarterfinal appearance where they held the third-longest home streak in the nation that dated back over two calendar years.

While the Owls have dominated on the field, Bohannon continues to collect accolades, earning the AFCA FCS National Coach of the Year following the 2017 season and earned AFCA District Coach of the Year after the 2018 campaign to go along with back-to-back Big South Conference Coach of the Year honors.

After graduating the inaugural signing class this year, Bohannon has a new challenge ahead as the Owls go for an outright three-peat championship in 2019, something never done in the history of the Big South Conference.

New Member Spotlight

Ed Klaas lived the better part of his childhood in East Cobb but moved around a lot before and after. He met and married his wife, Silvina, in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1999 while working for a law firm there. They moved to Roswell in 2001 and began to establish roots. Prior to starting Southern Sprinkler Systems in 2000, Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy and later worked for several multinational businesses and law firms in Atlanta including BellSouth, Coca-Cola and Smith, Gambrell & Russell. Ed is the proud father of two amazing children, Teddy (15) and Mellie (12). When not working, he enjoy spending quality with my children on their many activities (Scouting, piano, band, school), travel (he's been to more than 80 countries), the wine industry, genealogy, and the great outdoors. He also loves to volunteer! Ed has lent expertise and experiences to a variety of local, state, national and international organizations as a board member, panelist, lecturer, speaker and worker bee. Among those are NFCC, Keep Roswell Beautiful, the Children’s Development Academy, Mustard Seed Ministries and Scouting, among others. He is most proud of the work that his company and family have done each year for the last decade and a half at Arlington National Cemetery with the National Association of Landscape Professionals. Renewal and Remembrance as it is called, has grown from eight volunteers the first year to over 500 from 38 states this year. Last year, he established a foundation with his two kiddos called Klaasical Music and we get gently used musical instruments into the hands of students who can’t afford them. This is something he would like to bring to Rotary as a project.

Homelessness in Roswell
National Homeless Count - Point in Time - North Fulton

The Point In Time (PIT) Homeless Count conducted by The Fulton County Continuum of Care is crucial for tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness across the nation and for planning future efforts and will be conducted on January 17, 2019.

The PIT Count gives the County and its partner agencies valuable information on the homeless population that makes it possible to strategically target resources for optimal results. We will be surveying the unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in outdoor locations such as sidewalks, parks, encampments and under bridges. The surveys will provide demographic information on each homeless individual, give insight to their homeless history, and assess individual needs that will enable the Continuum to effectively plan housing and service interventions to prevent and end homelessness in Fulton County.

If you want to participate in the Homeless Count, please sign-up online CLICK HERE and let Mike Nielsen know if you will attend.
