FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our county can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude.” – Harry S. Truman

There are some Rotary meetings that inform us. Some that inspire us. And then there are meetings that remind us who we are as Americans. This Thursday will be one of those meetings.

Our annual Memorial Day Rotary meeting, led by Past President Dave Young, will not be a traditional meeting. It will be something far more meaningful. It will be a time of remembrance and gratitude. We will all take time to pause in the middle of our busy lives and reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and the extraordinary sacrifice made by so many men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is often associated with cookouts, lake weekends, and the unofficial beginning of summer. But at its heart, Memorial Day is sacred. It is not simply a day off work. It is a day set aside to honor those who never made it home. Freedom is not free. It was paid for by generations of Americans willing to place service above self for something greater than themselves. As Rotarians, that idea should resonate deeply with all of us. Service Above Self is not just a motto on a banner. It is a principle rooted in sacrifice, humility, and love for others. While none of us can ever fully repay the debt owed to our fallen heroes, we can honor them by living lives worthy of their sacrifice, and we can take the time to remember and honor all their sacrifices.

A special thank you goes to David Young and Lynne Lindsay, along with everyone who served on the Memorial Day Committee, for the countless hours of hard work and dedication that have gone into this year’s Memorial Day festivities at Roswell City Hall. Because of their leadership and effort, this year’s event is shaping up to be the largest and most meaningful celebration we have ever hosted. These events do not happen by accident. They happen because people quietly volunteer their time behind the scenes to ensure that a community never forgets.

And that is ultimately what Memorial Day asks of us: Remember the sacrifice; Remember the courage; Remember the families who carry the loss forever; Remember that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured by Americans who gave everything they had for people they would never meet.

May we never take that for granted.

I hope you will join us this Thursday for a very special meeting and then again on Monday at Roswell City Hall as our community comes together to honor the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Memorial Day Program at Rotary this Thursday

Dave Young and team will give us a preview of the program which will be seen at its finest on Monday May 25th. We encourage all members to attend and bring guests as we come together in gratitude, fellowship, and service. Let us never forget those who gave all.

The event on May 25th

The Annual Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 25th, is a don't miss opportunity to attend one of the largest celebrations in the State as well as one of the most meaningful and inspiring. Under the leadership of Committee Chair Dave Young, this event continues to make both the Roswell Rotary Club and the City of Roswell proud. The thoughtful reflection, moving tributes, and moments of remembrance are the perfect way to recognize the true meaning of Memorial Day and the sacrifices made for our freedom. To see the families and veterans and community turning out to observe this solemn day by remembering the ultimate sacrifice made by so many for this country is truly unforgettable.

There will be speeches and music and prayer. And there will also be BBQ and everything that makes this part of Roswell such a great place for families! So be sure to mark your calendar now.

If you have questions or want to volunteer, check in with  Nancy Alterman at 770-262-6300  , or Past President Dave Young at nfultonpt@juno.com. We’d love to have you join us for this meaningful tradition!

New Member Spotlight
Welcome Kathryn Mulkey

Roswell native Kathryn Mulkey, graduated from Roswell High School, University of Georgia and then Georgia State University School of Law. Having worked for a firm in Canton prior to opening her own practice in 2006, she focuses on areas of estate planning, probate and adoption; as such, she is a member of the Georgia Academy of Adoption Lawyers.

Active at Roswell United Methodist Church, Kathryn serves on their Foundation Board, is a prior board member of the Foster Care Support Foundation and also serves on the Star House Foundation Board, a non-profit organization serving at-risk children here in Roswell.

For almost 27 years, she has been married to her husband, Scott, who works for Yancey Brothers, and they have 3 girls: Claire, a recent UGA graduate, Elise, a rising junior at UGA, and Mary Harms, a rising senior at Roswell High.

As the daughter of a Rotarian, she grew up up loving the fried chicken at Roswell Rotary, attending the state convention in Jekyll, and she appreciates the incredible impact Rotary has on our community and the world.

Grateful for her large extended family and for the example of community service that her grandparents and parents set for all of them, she is proud of how our community steps up for one another and especially for those in need. Involved in every area of our city, Rotarians work hard to make Roswell great!

Fun fact: they have chickens and she loves making buttermilk biscuits with fresh eggs for her family…could be a great addition to our Farm Day menu!
