President's Message
Back to School

Covid has played a major impact on our schools.  This week Fulton County Students return to full time in person classes.

Join Roswell High School Principal Dr. Robert Shaw and Mountain Park Principal Stacy Perlman as we learn of changes that may become permanent, the impact on their staff and  their personal experiences in running a school during Covid.

This Week's Speakers (2 for 1 this week)
Update on Schools

A native of Windsor, Connecticut, Robert Shaw has lived in Georgia since he was 17. After high school he served in the U.S. Army as a Multi-Channel Communications Soldier for four years. Shaw completed a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, Social Studies at Kennesaw State University while working his way up into management at UPS.

In 2011, Dr. Shaw obtained his Doctor of Education degree, School Improvement from the University of West Georgia. His dissertation is titled, “Georgia Public High School Principals’ Understanding of FERPA.” Since 2013, he has been a part-time instructor at Kennesaw State University.

Dr. Shaw became principal at Roswell High School in 2017. He has received numerous awards in his career in education, including most recently Fulton County Schools Principal of the Year for the Central Learning Community in 2016. Shaw lives in Cherokee County. He enjoys spending time with his wife Shannon and their three daughters.

Stacy Perlman is serving her 30th year in Fulton County Schools. A graduate of the University of Florida, Ms. Perlman began teaching 2nd grade at Union City Elementary School in 1991. Interestingly, Union City Elementary School had no air conditioning nor central heat at that time. Over the next 16 years Ms. Perlman served as a teacher and Curriculum Support Teacher at Conley Hills Elementary School in East Point and Dunwoody Springs Elementary in Sandy Springs. After a brief stint as the assistant principal at Heards Ferry Elementary in Sandy Springs, she was selected as principal of Mountain Park Elementary in 2007. Ms. Perlman loves living in and serving the Roswell community. During her tenure at Mountain Park, she has had many experiences: being named a National Blue Ribbon School, having a school sleepover during Snowmaggedon, working for six different superintendents, major construction projects and shifts in the curriculum. However, none of these experiences have been as impactful nor as great a learning opportunity as running a school during Covid-19.

Digging In the Dirt

Grab your gloves, pruning sheers, blowers, shovels and spray canisters as we give the Heart of Roswell Park some landscaping love.

Located on Canton Street, directly across from Rock' N'  Taco, the park is one of the first seen by visitors to Roswell. Working with Historic Roswell Beautification Committee, we will prune, spray and spread straw to bring the park back to its natural beauty.

Jackets & Coats Needed For NFCC

The weather is cooling down and NFCC is collecting coats to help those in need stay warm this winter. Bring your gently used coats and jackets to our meeting and June Brown will deliver to NFCC. Children’s sizes are the greatest need.

See June at meacert@mindspring.com or 770.642.9000 for more details or to make a donation to this worth while cause.

Charity Spotlight
Historic Roswell Beautification Project

Mission:

To create, maintain, and preserve the beauty and charm of our streets, to improve civic pride, and to enhance the overall Historic Roswell experience for our citizens and visitors through streetscape projects.

Fast Facts:

  • Founded in 2017.
  • HRBP works with the City of Roswell to expedite streetscape projects to make Roswell more attractive and inviting.
  • HRBP partners with civic groups, business groups, the City of Roswell, and private citizens to raise and coordinate funding for streetscape projects.
  • HRBP motivates local businesses with street frontage to set higher standards and to create consistency in maintaining their outside space.
  • HRBP has concentrated its initial beautification efforts on existing street trees, hanging baskets, planters, and common areas, including sidewalks, storefronts, trash receptacles, and park benches.
