FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message

Thank a Vet

Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedoms. Roswell Rotarians are grateful for your sacrifices.  Past President Maurice Hilliard gave a heart felt story of a veteran of WWII, his father.  Thank you Maurice!

Every Rotarian at our club can thank those who are currently serving our country by participating in our Adopt a Platoon this week.  Its not to late to bring items listed below, donate some cash for those goods or help pack the boxes for our troops.   See Ralph Rowland who is again heading up the annual Adopt a Platoon project.

This week we will learn about the RI foundation as well as our own foundation, all of which are giving back to those in need.  Thank you Rotarians for putting Service above Self.

Speaker November 18, 2021
Margie Kersey- Past District Governor

Rotary & Foundation Giving in her heart

Rotary is a huge part of Margie’s life. She joined Rotary in 1998 and has served as president of two different Rotary clubs. She is a Major Donor, Bequest Society member, and was honored to be named District 6900 Rotarian of the Year in 2008. Margie is active at the District level, where she served as District Governor in 2011-12 and as District Rotary Foundation Chair from 2016-2019.

Come hear why Margie gives her time and talents to Rotary Foundation!

Business Networking Event for Rotarians

Paul Harris formed the Rotary in 1905 so that professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and conduct business together.  Paul Harris was networking well before 1985 when telecommunications expert and consultant Bill Lewis is believed to be the first person to use the term “networking” to describe connecting people in order to build a business network.

While Rotary is about "Service Above Self," there is a growing place for networking in Rotary, particularly for those earlier in their careers, and those responsible for generating revenue.  It is an opportunity for you or someone on your staff, or someone you are interested in recruiting to Roswell Rotary.

Last month's gathering again drew a crowd - with Rotarians from the Atlanta Metro, Dunwoody, Peachtree City, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Tucker  clubs. While it had similarities to other networking events, you knew that attendees honored the integrity of the 4 Way Test.

The next event returns to the Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, 1224 Hammond Dr, Dunwoody, GA 30346, between the Perimeter Mall and the MARTA station.

So plan to join us on Nov 16 from 6:30 - 8:00pm.   For more information, please contact Hal Schlenger, or Johnathan Clark of the Tucker Club (johnathanmclark@gmail.com | 404.512.6058)

Walk (and talk) with a Doc Sat, Nov 20 8:00am
What could possibly motivate you to go for a walk on a Saturday morning?

If you're like the majority of people, the answer is "not much."  Would  feeling as good as President Terry and Matt Millard and as svelte as President Terry and Matt Millard give you reason to reconsider?

After a brief talk from Dr Bush about "3 Common Myths about Being Healthy", we'll hike through the Vickery Falls trails.  You can talk with Dr Bush or talk with others on the walk.   It's an ideal way to start a weekend!

While this link lists 100 research articles how walking is good for you, Rotary is making it fun. We’re joining up with the national “Walk with a Doc” program for a 2 mile and a 3 mile walk. In addition to the 100 reasons to walk, the 101st is to make room for Roswell Rotary’s fried chicken for lunch. And there are several bonuses to participating in this community event

• The opportunity to get advice from our doctor while walking

• Free parking

•Earn credits for free coffee at Roswell’s Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee

Date:  Sat, Nov 20, 8:00 – 9:30am.  Note: Our December walk will be Sat, Dec 4 at the Chattahoochee Nature Center and coincide with their Annual Holiday Market.

For questions, contact Hal Schlenger at HSchlenger@GreatSouthBenefits.com or 770.335.0077.

Upcoming Project - Bulloch Hall Cleanup

In cooperation with the City of Roswell, Roswell Rotary is putting together a cleanup day on  the grounds of Roswell landmark Bulloch Hall.  Stay tuned for future updates and a specific date to be announced.  Let's grab our tools and gather and help repay the City of Roswell in some small way for the use of the Gym and kitchen facilities that we enjoy each week.  Please contact Matt Millard to let us know you are interested and we will forward you a volunteer waiver.  Thank you!

Become a Paul Harris Fellow
November is Rotary Foundation Month

Most of you know that November is Rotary Foundation Month.

It’s during this month that we put a push in the Roswell Rotary to have everyone in our club contribute to the Rotary Foundation. What you may not know is that our club will match your donation up to $300 to help you reach the next Paul Harris Fellow level. This year, if you were within $600.00 of the next PHF level, you would have received an email from Don Horton, Roswell Foundation Chair, outlining the amount you needed to reach that next level, the amount you needed to give to get the club matching funds. There were 63 individuals who were within $600.00. Out of those, 15 people stepped up and received the matching funds. Additionally, three individuals wanted to become Major Donors and went well beyond the match to do so. We plan to honor all the Paul Harris Fellows, and Major Donors in January of 2022.

Every Rotarian, Every Year

Another push for the Rotary Foundation is what we call EREY, which means Every Rotarian, Every Year. During this period, we ask all Roswell Rotarians to give at least $25.00 to the Rotary Foundation. In every case, to make is easy, you can simply have the contribution billed to your Roswell Rotary Account.

End Polio NOW donations count toward Paul Harris level

It should be noted that any contributions you make to the “End Polio Now” campaign does count toward your PHF status. In fact, you can designate any or all of your contribution to “End Polio Now” and every penny will go toward your Paul Harris Fellow level.

Why contribute to the Rotary Foundation?

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects. With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world. The mission The Rotary Foundation helps Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

What impact can one donation have?

• For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio. • $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness. • $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.

Please donate to the Foundation during November!

So will you please consider giving to the Rotary Foundation during the month of November. Our club benefits from many of the grants given by The Foundation.
