President's Message

Greetings from the Darien Jungle in Panama!  

Coming to a country that has areas of extreme poverty and looking at the picture of our children of Vickery Mill Elementary School makes me remember how the simple things in life are what matters.   We have come prepared for this trip with simple big balloons with rubber bands attached to the ends and seeing the smiles that this simple balloon will bring the children in this remote village.  Then there's our water project which is located or a book like our club donated to the Read Across Roswell, reminds us that it's the simple things in life that matter.   Thank you Rotarian Stacy Perlman for arranging Read Across Roswell for our schools.  And although we were not able to read live to the children of our schools our club can still put a smile on the faces of many children.  

I am sure next year we will resume reading live to the kids.   Coming out of this pandemic where everyone was "masked up" without smiles showing, also makes me appreciate how important it to see a smile and to feel human touch.  Who can't remember the first time an infant looked up at you, saw your smile and responded with a big smile.  So enjoy the day and give someone a smile. 

I will not be at this weeks meeting but PE John will be ringing the bell.  And remember that Thursday the 17th is St Patrick's Day, so start shopping for your favorite green outfit for our meeting!

This is an opportunity for you or someone on your staff, or someone you are interested in recruiting to Roswell Rotary.

Our last gathering again drew a crowd from the Atlanta Metro, Dunwoody, Peachtree City, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Tucker clubs. While it had similarities to other networking events, you knew that attendees honored the integrity of the 4 Way Test!

This is why Paul Harris formed Rotary for 1905. Professionals with diverse

backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and conduct business together. Paul Harris was networking well before the term “networking” was used to describe connecting people in order to build a business network.  

While Rotary is about "Service Above Self," there is a growing place for networking in Rotary, particularly for those responsible for generating revenue.

Roswell Relays....Back in 2022 with 26 teams!!!

After having to cancel the 2020 Roswell Rotary Relays and with a reduced schedule in 2021, the 2022 Rotary Relays is back to normal with a full schedule of 26 teams participating on Saturday March 19, 2022, at Roswell High School.  The Relays start at 9:00 and should finish by 5:00.

As the sponsor of the Relays our Rotary Club provides volunteers to help run the track & field events as well as provide hospitality for the team coaches and Rotary volunteers.  Our greatest need for volunteers is in the morning to cover both sessions of the field events.  We will also need some volunteers during the running events in the afternoon.  After having restrictions on what was allowed last year our hospitality coordinator Mindy Jones is planning for our normal breakfast and lunch set up in the school cafeteria so we will need adequate hospitality volunteers from approximately 8:00 to 3:00.

What We Need

• Greatest Need: Morning volunteers to cover both sessions of field events
• Afternoon volunteers for running events
• Hospitality volunteers for shifts running from 8am 3pm

Roswell High School Career Day New Date Monday, March 21st

The Details

Date: Monday, March 21st

Place: Roswell High School

Time: Flexible with choice of any class period and more than one if you have the time. 

What: 20 min talk with the class to relay your story about your career. Classes include: Computer Science, AV Tech, Broadcast Video, Marketing, Engineering, Architectural Design, Carpentry/Electrical, Construction, Cosmetology, and JROTC

Topic Ideas: 

1. A brief history/background of yourself that led to your current career or job

2. Description and responsibilities of your career/occupation

3. Education/training required

4. Skills needed

5. Positive and negative aspects of your career/occupation

6. Salary range/pay (and benefits, any PERKS)

7. What classes or activities in school helped prepare you for this job

Ways to Make things Engaging: Storytelling is always great. Or, have the students complete a case study or brainstorm. Speakers can also bring in artifacts or use games like Kahoot or Jeopardy to engage the students.

Special Need: In the past, it has been difficult to find Cosmetology professionals. Please feel free to find Business Owners to speak to those students. Students who enter this profession will be tasked with operating a business.

Sweep the Hooch

Save the Date
Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 9 am to 12 pm

Saturday March 26, 2022, 9 AM till Noon is the 12^th annual Sweep the Hooch River cleanup sponsored by the Chattahoochee River Keeper. Roswell Rotary Club has participated every year, cleaning up the trails, river, and river back along Roswell Road from Don White Park to Eaves Road. This is the area of the river that we have adopted through the Georgia Adopt a Stream Program. We need walkers, waders, and floaters (kayak, canoe, or raft), for this very worthwhile cause. This is also an excellent family event and always a great time for all! Check out the geese, heron, waterdogs and hawks and other various wildlife along the river!!
