East Cobb Towhee Trail Project @ East Cobb Park, Marietta, GA

The Rotary Club of East Cobb's involvement with the "Friends for the East Cobb Park" has been present since the park's inception in the mid-1990s. Club members serve on the board, and the club sponsors community events at the park. It's only natural that East Cobb Rotary would join in the "Adopt-A-Section of the Towhee Trail" project. The goal is to restore native woodland habitat by removing non-native, invasive plants and adding Georgia native plants. All plants are donated, and all labor is volunteer so the dollar cost of this project is zero.

A hard-working, core group of 12 club members work on the trail for two hours on three to six Saturday mornings each year attired in gold "Rotary Volunteer" shirts. Hours of service range from 36 to 72, and this year's projection is around 40 hours. "Rotarians at Work" signs are imbedded in the ground at the site on work days, and articles about the club's work appear in the East Cobb Park newsletter. Permanent Rotary logo signage has been placed at the beginning of the trail. Consistent maintenance needs will keep this project as an ongoing commitment for many years to come.

This year's schedule includes work days on October 18, 2014, April 11, 2015 and June 20, 2015. On October 18th six club members cleaned up and refreshed the entrance to the trail. As has become typical, community residents walking the trail that day expressed appreciation and thanks for our work.
