1st Annual Multi- Generational Fishing Derby

The 1st Annual Fishing Derby was a heartwarming success, bringing together over 75 members of the community in a wonderful collaboration between RRC, Roswell City Parks & Recreation, Roswell Interact Clubs and Senior Services North Fulton. Held at a picturesque local pond in Roswell Area Park, the event offered a memorable experience for families and children, many of whom were learning to fish for the first time.

The City of Roswell's resources and support were crucial in making the event possible.  City staff harvested the bamboo for the poles and provided the beautiful location for the event, showcasing their commitment to community, engagement and recreation.

Each child was provided with a custom bamboo fishing rod, harvested from bamboo grown on the historic Mimosa Hall property and cut to size by Roswell City staff and Rotary members. Local merchants generously contributed tackle box items, ensuring every participant had the right gear.  Interact Club members played a key role by signing in children and their adult partners, who were ready for a fun day of catch-and-release fishing.

Awards were given for the Biggest fish, Smallest fish, and even the Prettiest fish, celebrating the variety and excitement of the day.  Teams of children and their adult partners-some spanning three generations with grandfathers, fathers and grandsons-bonded over learning the art of fishing.  Adults patiently taught their young partners casting techniques, with many participants catching their very first fish.

The event was was made even more special by the delicious refreshments provided by a local vendor, keeping energy high and spirits bright throughout the day. the first-ever Fishing Derby highlighted the strength of community collaboration, local support and intergenerational learning, setting the stage for a cherished annual tradition in Roswell.

The event was totally funded by donations from corporate sponsors and individuals.  No money was used from RRC operating budget.
