Ross Cavitt recently retired after a career spanning more than three decades in television news. Most of his time as a reporter came at WSB-TV in Atlanta, where he was awarded a half-dozen regional Emmy Awards, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and multiple Associated Press Awards.

Cavitt covered some of the largest stories in Atlanta since the early 1990s, including the 1996 Olympics and the Olympic Park bombing, the downtown Atlanta tornado, the Brian Nichols courthouse shooting, the 2016 Adairsville tornado, and many others. He chased dozens of hurricanes across the southeast, including hurricanes Andrew, Hugo, and Opal. Prior to coming to WSB, Cavitt's assignments included covering the US Space Program at the Kennedy Space Center, traveling to Kuwait for the aftermath of Operation Desert Storm, and covering dozens of death penalty cases in court.

Only a few people will remember Cavitt as a meteorologist who did weather forecasting on WSB-TV for several years in the mid-2000s.

In late 2017, Cavitt left WSB-TV to become Communications Director at Cobb County. He oversees a small staff that handles all aspects of communications in the county, which includes CobbTV that broadcasts county meetings and assists departments in shooting videos to promote their programs.

Cavitt lives in Cobb County with his wife Marge, he has two daughters; one pursuing her Library Science degree in Illinois and the youngest in Theater at Florida State.
