The Cottage School Interact Club served the community through the following projects:
One of our first activities this year was decorating
fire boots. The fire department then used the boots to collect donations. This
was a nice way to welcome new club members without jumping into working groups
and stressing them out.
We wanted to partner with Roswell Rotary to help out the
people in Costa Rica to get proper eyewear, so we ran a donation drive. We hung
flyers around campus and included information in our school’s weekly
newsletter. We successfully collected 32 pairs to donate.
- World Polio Day - Pies for Polio
To show our support for World Polio Day, we ran a
fundraiser called Pies for Polio, where students could purchase tickets for $1
and place them in their favorite teacher’s jar. Each ticket was an opportunity
to pie a winning teacher. The top 3 staff that had the most tickets got
pied in the face. We sold 400 tickets and raised $400 for Rotary’s PolioPlus
Fund.
- Food Drive - Community Assistance Center
We ran a food drive throughout our elementary, middle, and
high school in partnership with the Advancement team and were successfully able
to collect 500 lbs of food to donate. We then hand delivered the donations, and
helped out wherever was needed in their facility. All students in the club got
to help stock shelves, organize food, cross out barcodes, and sort different
non-perishable foods.
- Buying holiday gifts for NFCC Toyland
Every student in our
Interact Club got a $40 budget to pick out a toy or two on Amazon to send to
NFCC so parents could still shop for holiday gifts for their kids free of
charge.
Adopt a Road is something we participate in every year, and
we always walk up and down Grimes Bridge Rd to collect as many pieces of trash
as we can. We collected 4 bags of trash. We love to make the community around us as clean.
- Free Little Food Pantry at Temple Beth Tikvah
We had the opportunity to stock up the
free little food pantry at Temple Beth Tikvah. We went to Walmart, and using
Rotary seed money, picked out non-perishable goods and toiletries to fill the
pantry for whoever was in need in our community. Many people who are food
insecure feel shame. Free Little Pantries are unmanned and some people feel
more comfortable using one compared to a food bank. We picked up so much that
we were able to fill the pantry twice!
- Pet Supplies Drive for Furkids
We are currently getting ready to run a pet supply drive
for Furkids. We will be collecting towels, blankets, trash bags, and anything else
the shelter was requesting, as well as cash donations. When we visited last
year it was just to volunteer our time, this year we will volunteer and bring a
collection of donated items with us.
- American Red Cross Blood Drive with Roswell Rotary
In April, The Interact Club will be hosting a Blood
Drive. All staff, students, and families are encouraged to donate, because just
1 pint of blood can save 3 lives! The best our school has ever done is 17
pints, but through marketing and word-of-mouth we are hoping to double that!
