Join us as we welcome Chief James Conroy of the Roswell Police Department and Deputy Fire Chief Danny Thompson of the Roswell Fire Department. They will share updates on their departments, current challenges, and the initiatives shaping public safety in our community. Chief James W. Conroy Chief of Police, City of Roswell

Chief James Conroy has served as Roswell’s Chief of Police since July 2019, following a nationwide search that recognized his extensive experience and leadership in metropolitan law enforcement. He oversees a full-service department with more than 200 employees and an annual budget of approximately $22 million, serving a city of nearly 98,000 residents. Prior to his appointment in Roswell, Chief Conroy retired from the DeKalb County Police Department after 30 years of service, including five and a half years as Chief of Police. During his tenure, he led a department of over 1,200 personnel and implemented strategic reforms that contributed to significant reductions in crime. His leadership emphasized data-driven policing, transparency, and community engagement.

Chief Conroy holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University. His executive training includes:

  • FBI National Executive Institute
  • Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville
  • Senior Management Institute for Police (PERF)
  • Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange
  • Leadership DeKalb

He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Police Executive Research Forum, Atlanta METROPOL, and Metro Atlanta Police Emerald Society. He also serves on the board of the Gold Shield Foundation of Metro Atlanta. Chief Conroy is widely respected for his strategic vision and commitment to public service. His work continues to shape modern policing in Georgia through innovation, accountability, and strong community partnerships.


Chief Danny Thompson Interim Deputy Chief, Roswell Fire Department

Chief Danny Thompson brings over 35 years of experience in fire and emergency services, with a reputation for operational leadership and a deep commitment to public safety. He has served the Roswell Fire Department since 2007, rising through the ranks to his current role as Interim Deputy Chief, where he helps oversee emergency response operations, logistics, and departmental leadership. His career includes prior leadership roles in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia, including service as Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director in Dawson County and as a Fire Captain and Training Officer in Sandy Springs. He has also contributed to statewide traffic incident management initiatives through consulting work with Parsons Corporation.

Chief Thompson holds an associate’s degree in Fire Services Administration from Columbia Southern University and maintains multiple advanced certifications, including:

  • NPQ Fire Officer IV
  • NPQ Instructor III & Live Fire Instructor
  • Advanced Certified Emergency Manager (Georgia)
  • Georgia Fire Chief Certification
  • Georgia EMS Director Certification
