First elected to the Senate in 2016, he brought with him a strong record of local leadership, including his prior service as Chairman of the Toombs County Commission. Sen. Tillery announced in August 2025 that he would seek the office of Lieutenant Governor in the 2026 election.
A graduate of the University of Georgia, Sen. Tillery earned his degree in International Affairs in 2006 and his Juris Doctor from the UGA School of Law in 2010. He is now the managing partner at Smith and Tillery, P.C. in Vidalia, where he and his wife, Ashlee Nicole, make their home. Throughout his career, Sen. Tillery has been active in regional and community organizations. His service includes roles with the Heart of Georgia–Altamaha Regional Commission, the Heart of Georgia Workforce Investment Board, the Toombs County Boys and Girls Club Board, and the Leadership Toombs‑Montgomery program, which he co‑chaired. In recognition of his early leadership, he was named to Georgia Trend’s “40 Under 40” in 2013 and is a graduate of Leadership Georgia, the Conservative Policy Leadership Institute, and Republican Leadership for Georgia.
In the Senate, Senator Tillery holds several key committee assignments. He serves as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Vice Chair of both the State Institutions and Property Committee and the Government Oversight Committee, and is a member of the Judiciary, Finance, and Reapportionment and Redistricting. Since taking office, he has focused on budget stewardship, state institutions, and issues affecting Georgia’s long‑term growth.
Sen. Tillery and his wife, Ashlee Nicole were married in 2016. They are active in their community and reside in Vidalia. We look forward to welcoming Senator Tillery on March 26 for insights into his work at the Capitol and the issues shaping Georgia’s future.
