Our club is pleased to welcome Shaun Chapas, former University of Georgia standout and NFL fullback, as our guest speaker on January 29 in conjunction with Roswell Rotary’s Skipper Hoke Awards, our annual athletic leadership honors given to standout high‑school football players in Roswell who exemplify character, teamwork, and peer‑recognized leadership. The awards are named in memory of longtime Rotarian and community sports champion Skipper Hoke.

Chapas was born on May 2, 1988, and began distinguishing himself early at Bolles School, where he earned the starting fullback position as a freshman. By his junior year, he helped lead his team to a Class AA state title, contributing nine rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns. Even after missing his senior season due to an ACL tear, he remained one of the nation’s top fullback prospects, ranked eighth nationally and fifth on Florida’s Rivals.com Top‑100 list.

At the University of Georgia, Chapas continued to excel. After redshirting to recover from injury, he appeared in all 13 games of the 2007 season, contributing on offense and special teams as the Bulldogs capped the year with a Sugar Bowl victory. Over the next three seasons, he became a reliable and respected presence on the team, earning Academic All‑District honors, SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition, and being named CBS Scholar Athlete of the Game versus LSU. Known for his toughness and exceptional blocking ability, Chapas was selected by Sporting News as the “SEC’s Best Blocking Back” in 2009. As a senior, he served as Georgia’s permanent team captain, scoring both rushing and receiving touchdowns and earning multiple team awards recognizing leadership, character, and dedication.

Chapas went on to play professionally in the NFL. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2011, later joining the Detroit Lions, where he appeared in the final games of the 2012 season. His professional career also included time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens before injuries concluded his playing years.

Today, Chapas continues to serve the University of Georgia community as the Senior Director of Development for the UGA Athletic Association, bringing the same commitment and drive that defined his athletic career. We look forward to hearing Shaun share insights from his journey through high‑level athletics, leadership, and resilience. Please join us for what promises to be an inspiring and engaging program.
