What is Your Why?

The Why is the purpose, casque or belief that drives us all. My personal “Why” statement in life is to give away daily what has been given to me because that is the only way I will be able to keep what I have. This statement guides me in all the areas of my life. We all have a deep rooted passion that drives what we spend our days doing, keeps us up at night, wakes us up, stresses us out or is the favorite topic of conversation.

What is your Why? If you do not have one I hope that you will search for your own personal Why statement. Here are a couple of questions that can help you start the process:

  1. What is the thing that makes you come alive?
  2. What are your personal strengths that others talk about?
  3. Where do you add the most value?
  4. How do you want to measure your life?

When we think about how we share Rotary with our friends and family often we share What we do rather than Why we do it. When we share what we do we are sharing facts and other information. When we share Why we can attach to the emotion of service. Sharing the emotion of the Why allows you to connect with passion so be bold.

We all have a deep rooted passion, what is yours?
