Kit Cummings, Teaching with Laughter, Goosebumps and Tears

Please join the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs in welcoming an award winning author and teacher, Kit Cummings to the podium on Monday, November 9th at 12:15.

Award-Winning Author and Teacher Born and raised in Atlanta, Kit earned a BBA in Marketing from the Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia, and he also holds a Master of Theology. Kit founded Power of Peace Productions, Inc. and brings his experience working in some of the most dangerous areas in the world to inspire change in prisons, schools, and the faith-based community-and he does it with high energy and laughter as the catalyst. Kit has challenged people to aim higher in corporations, athletics, addiction and recovery, churches, prisons, and more. He has journeyed on tours through Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, and has negotiated peace between some of the most notorious gangs inside the U.S. prison system. Kit has spoken about his powerful peace projects at the Gandhi Global Peace Summit in Durban, South Africa, and he's planted seeds of peace all around the world. Recently Kit has taken his Forty Days to Freedom program into Cartel-controlled La Mesa prison to work with prisoners, as well as addicts and at-risk youth in some of the toughest areas of Tijuana. Kit has authored four books, including the award-winning Peace Behind the Wire, a Non-Violent Resolution, and he also launched Power of Peace Radio. Kit's new release Protect the Dream takes young people on a forty-day journey of character and leadership development designed to teach kids to dream big dreams and protect those dreams at all costs. The Power of Peace Project raises up much-needed positive role models in our schools and communities. What's next? Kit has now launched his POPP Community Peace Initiative in Selma Alabama, and that work is the subject of his next book. So, the question is: are you ready for the Power of Peace?

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs meets weekly on Mondays | 12:15 pm Hilton Suites 6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, NE Sandy Springs, GA 30328

Past Program
Bill Swilley, “The mission of Scouting is Pure Leadership.”

On November 2, 2020, Mr. Bill Swilley a Boy Scout of America for more 76 years, graced the podium of the Sandy Springs Rotary Club.

For his brief moment in front of the club, Mr. Swilley chose to reach back in time and recount a few of his most memorable moments. The words he used to describe his scouting experience were positive, moving and straight from his heart.

While recalling a special moment peeling an apple with a young scout, one could feel his emotion and extraordinarily deep care for Scouting . Mr. Swilley is truly committed to Scouting and wants to be a positive influence on each Scout he encounters.

"I'm 13 going on 86."

Mr. Swilley remarked that he felt like a 13 year-old going on 86. That is a statement he used more than once and it articulates volumes. His enthusiasm and excitement to work with the Boy Scouts of America is evident in his every word and posture.

Working with the Dens and Packs of Scouts is especially important to him. The work offers the chance to teach the importance of truth and integrity. It also provides the perfect platform to lead by example and build important skill sets that encourage leadership qualities.

“The mission of Scouting is Pure Leadership.”

He went on to stress the message that our children need love, caring and understanding. Again, in his own touching words, he announced that he feels incredibly fortunate to have such a rich collection of wonderful memories that were derived from his Scouting experience.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs would like to thank Mr. Swilley for his many years of dedication to the Boy Scouts of America.

Past Program
Peter Stoddard, Reviving the Legacy of Lewis Grizzard

On Monday, October 19th, Peter Stoddard, a UGA alumnus and rabid Dawg fan visited the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs. Since he was a boy, Mr. Stoddard has been a devoted fan of another UGA alumnus and rabid Dawg fan named Lewis Grizzard. For the decades of smiles given to him by reading Gizzard’s stories, Stoddard decided to create a compilation of Lewis Grizzard’s writings and funniest moments. He accomplished this through interviews with dozens of people who knew Grizzard the best. In his book, “Lewis Grizzard, The Dawg That Did Not Hunt”, Peter recounts stories that the world has never heard and promises to reveal a variety of facts about Grizzard’s life. Stoddard also promises to dispel a few “facts” as well. His book is intended to honor Lewis Grizzard with the prime goal of creating a few more smiles and transmit to others a more personal legacy of Grizzard’s humor.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs would like to thank Mr. Stoddard for helping to keep the writings and memories of Lewis Grizzard alive.
