I took my family wine tasting in the Bekaa valley which is located north of Beirut. This photo and the one below are from one of the wineries, Domaines des Tourelles. The clay jars/containers are filled with the local spirit known as Arak, which is made from grapes and flavored with anise seed. The other photo is our little table where we did a tasting of the their whites, reds, and roses. That region grows a lot of french grapes (cabernet, chardonnay, cinsault, etc) but also has delicious local varieties such as obeidy.

By the end of August I completed my internship with Search for Common Ground. Overall it was an interesting and insightful experience as my position familiarized me with a lot of their projects, thereby giving me a good overview of what they are working on in Lebanon. I wrote concept notes, proposals, budget narratives, and contributed to building a social media campaign for a cultural heritage project. I was also introduced to an array of peacebuilding organizations in Lebanon and Syria which will be useful information for my next professional steps.

My family visited soon after I completed my internship and I had a great time introducing them to Beirut and Lebanon! I am now back into full thesis mode and attempting to complete it sooner rather than later. The Peace Fellows and I are also preparing for our seminar in October where we will present what we did during our AFEs and Fellowship to Rotarians from all around the UK.
