On May 20, the Rotary Clubs of Marietta and Marietta Metro hosted 31st Annual S.A. White Golf Tournament Each year this tournament is the major fund raiser for the RC of Marietta to benefit children’s charities and other deserving causes throughout the coming Rotary year.
The day began at the Marietta Country Club amid threats of severe downpours and heavy winds. As things turned out, conditions that afternoon turned breezy and fair under Constable skies. Around 11:00 am, 150-golfers began arriving to register and delve into box lunches provided by Chick-Fil-A. Play began at 1:00 pm and continued until 4:30 pm. A big surprise developed during the ball drop raffle at 6:00 pm.Amazingly, not one, not two but three numbered dropped balls rolled into the cup! This resulted in a three-way split of the ball-drop earnings. Afterwards, plenty of golf stories circulated around the Country Club’s supper of broiled chicken, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for all the players and volunteers.
