DGE Jim Squire and DGN Kirk Driskell with PDG Cheryl Greenway, who will serve as our 2019-22 District Rotary Foundation Chair.
This is the one month a year that we really focus on The Rotary Foundation – and it is appropriate since November is also host to Thanksgiving. And frankly, I give thanks for The Rotary Foundation because of the way it allows Rotarians to make such a big difference in the world. Sometimes it is easy to become jaded and focus on the negatives in this world. How awesome is it that we can look at those negatives and say “I can do something about that!”
This year we have had five Global grants approved already and 13 more in development. All together we have over 30 Global Grants in process! Everything from scholars sent overseas to further develop their knowledge so they can return home and make our neighborhoods a better place to grants that will provide clean water, education and save children’s lives. All thanks to the 69 clubs in our district – that is doing a lot of good in the world!
We just finished interviewing candidates for Global Scholarships and this year we are funding three! They are some amazing folks and we will be publishing information about all of them in coming issues, so keep an eye on this space.
If your club isn’t already involved in one of these Global Grants, maybe it is time to think about it. You don’t have to do it alone. You can team with other clubs, join a grant in development or maybe go to Rotary Ideas and find an international partner you want to work with.
Of course we are doing a lot of work right here in Georgia as well. We funded 67 District Grants this year totaling almost $200,000. WOW!
All of this work is because of the generosity of the Rotarians in this district. Thank you! And thank you for your continued support. Right now DG Court and I are busy visiting clubs and presenting Foundation banners earned last year. But now is the time for clubs to look at their giving this year. If your club collects Foundation money quarterly, please mail it in now. Don’t wait for the end of the year. Now is a great time to challenge those members that haven’t started supporting the Foundation. Maybe offer a points match?
Our goal is to reach $800,000 in giving to the Annual Fund. This money is invested for three years and then is available to our district for grants. We still have a quite a ways to go, so we need your support!
One more piece of news – Each District Rotary Foundation Chair serves a three-year tour of duty and mine will come to an end on June 30. The incoming DRFC has just been announced. Please help me welcome PDG Cheryl Greenway of the RC of Roswell – Congrats!! She will do a wonderful job. Start booking Cheryl to speak to your club about the Foundation and helping her get to know your club and your future plans.
