Members of the Rotary Club of Marietta and their families joined with the Marietta Police Athletic League and other local civic organizations to host the 12th annual “Holidays Around the World” Children’s Party this Christmas for 187 underprivileged youngsters in the city’s depressed area around Franklin Gateway. Days before the party, Holly Walquist and ten other Rotarians gathered at a local Walmart to shop for gifts for babies, youth and teen boys/girls. Holly and more Rotarians next went over to Gateway Oaks Business Park to pack 250 toiletry bags for every child. The bags included toothbrushes, combs and shampoo.
On the big night of the party, 18 Marietta Rotarians and seven of their friends and family were present to pass out gifts, toiletry bags, tree ornaments and 70 huge boxes of Domino pizza. Why it was all such a joyful happening, Santa and several of his Elves dropped in for the evening! This huge community service event involved over 320 families, partners and volunteers.
