The Million Dollar Race

Beginning in 1990, the Vinings Cumberland Rotary Club has put on a 5K race every year to benefit a number of charities in the Cobb and Fulton County area. The club has so far paid out over $1 million dollars to charities such as the Calvary Children's Home, The Good Samaritan Health Center, Angel Flight Soars, Atlanta Area Boy Scouts, Atlanta Union Mission, Bankhead Boys Association, Breakthrough Atlanta, Campbell High School Educational Foundation, HERO Atlanta, Kate's Club, Lekotek, MUST Ministries, Sweetwater Mission, and many more. Pictured are the most recent recipients who received more than $83,000 in grants.

The mostly downhill race, which is a qualifier for the Peachtree 5K race in July, begins at the top of Mt Wilkinson in Vinings, and ends through the back entrance of the Lovett School. The 5K race is run by over 1,400 people of all ages, and there is also a one mile children's run and a Doggie Dash. After all events are finished, everyone meets at the Vinings Jubilee for awards and refreshments.
