The Rotary Foundation
Dear Mom & Dad, Send Money

Most of us have either received or sent this letter – maybe you sent yours from summer camp (I did!) or college. Maybe yours was an email. Carrier pigeon, snail mail, email or Morse code, the message is clear: Send Money.

Our district – specifically our members! – have a tradition of supporting The Rotary Foundation. It started here. We celebrated the 100 th birthday of The Foundation here. We have history. This year we have done a great job of supporting PolioPlus. Thank you!! I now need your help to get our Annual Fund up to our normal levels.

That is my message to you this month. Send Money. Specifically, please send in your funds to The Rotary Foundation, Annual Fund. Most clubs include $25 a month on their quarterly invoices to members, have you sent those funds to the Foundation yet? At least 18 clubs have not. Several other clubs have only sent a small portion of what they have collected (based on previous years).

Why does this matter? Because donations to the Annual Fund (SHARE) come back to the district in three years and are used to fund District Grants! This money is also what we use to provide matching money for Global Grants and Global Scholars. Member donations to the Annual Fund is what makes this possible. We need your support every Rotary year to make this possible. Please don’t wait until June 30 because your collections may be applied to the next Rotary year.

During one club visit this year the Treasurer asked how to send in Foundation money. It hadn’t been submitted for at least 18 months. Another club found that Foundation money hadn’t been submitted for over two years. And these are just two that I know of…how about you? Failure to submit Foundation money of course eliminates your club from recognition, but more importantly, it hurts your members and their trust in you. These are charitable donations they may deduct from their taxes – if you submit the funds properly.

There are two forms to submit funds and the one you use depends on how many people are donating. One person should use Rotary form 123 (easy to remember number!). If you have multiple people donating, use Rotary form 094. This form allows you to list all the people, with their RI number, who want to donate. You can even attach a spreadsheet to this form if you are sending up money for more than 20 people. Both forms are available at rotary.org
